A lot of first-time yacht buyers charter first, and it's worth understanding why.
No hiring or managing crew. A crewed charter includes a captain, so you're not separately sourcing, vetting, or paying crew for a single trip.
Try before you commit. Chartering different yacht sizes and layouts — a sport yacht versus a larger motor yacht — gives you a real sense of what you'd actually use, before committing to a purchase and its ongoing costs.
No depreciation or carrying costs. Yachts depreciate, and ownership carries slip fees, insurance, and maintenance whether or not you're using the boat. Chartering avoids all of that — you pay for the day you use.
A range of price points. Charter rates scale with vessel size and duration, so you can find an option that fits your budget rather than committing to a six- or seven-figure purchase.
