A conference-room happy hour is easy to skip. A private yacht charter gives a networking event or industry mixer a reason to actually show up — and real deck space to work the room instead of standing in a corner.
Why a Yacht Beats a Standard Venue
The whole boat is reserved for your group only, the same as every CDM Yachts charter — no sharing space with another event, and no venue capacity cap right when your guest list arrives.
Open deck space also changes how people actually mingle. Guests move between the salon, the bar, and the open deck on their own, rather than sitting through a seated program. The skyline or the water gives everyone an easy opener, too — useful at an event built around meeting new people.
Who Books This Format
Industry mixers, chamber of commerce events, professional association meetups, alumni happy hours, and client-appreciation nights all fit the same format: a private charter built around conversation, not a seated agenda. See our Corporate Events page for other ways companies use the fleet.
Picking the Right Vessel
Guest count is the first thing to settle, since it determines which yacht actually fits.
A smaller, more intimate mixer — a board meeting after hours, a small client group — fits the Sea Ray 56 well, up to 13 guests, with a salon and a flybridge to spread across.
A larger industry mixer or association event fits the Westport 100 better. It's certified for up to 134 passengers, with a main-deck lounge and beverage bar built for a mingling crowd rather than rows of seating, plus a main salon, aft deck, and forward sun deck so a bigger guest list doesn't feel packed onto one level. See our capacity guide for how guest count maps to vessel.
If your group departs from Mission Bay rather than San Diego Bay, the McKinna 69 is worth considering for a smaller executive gathering, up to 13 guests, with an enclosed Skylounge for a quieter conversation away from the open deck.
Check-In, Badges, and What's Already Handled
Every charter already includes a USCG-licensed captain and crew and life jackets for every passenger, so none of that needs arranging. If your event needs a check-in table or name badges at boarding, tell us ahead of time — we'll confirm the right spot on the vessel so guests aren't fumbling with a lanyard while they're still finding their footing on the dock.
Catering and Bar Service
Guests are welcome to bring their own food and drinks, including alcohol, on every charter. For a professional event, most groups prefer to arrange it instead — catering and bar service can both be coordinated in advance, so nobody on your team is pouring drinks between conversations.
How Long to Book
Most networking events run 3 to 4 hours — long enough for people to actually settle into conversations, short enough to hold everyone's attention. Every charter has a 2-hour minimum, if your event runs shorter than that.
What It Costs
The Westport 100 is priced by guest-count tier rather than a flat rate: starting at $1,500 per hour for 25 guests or fewer, up to $2,500 per hour at full 134-guest capacity. The Sea Ray 56 starts at $1,980 for the 2-hour minimum and scales up with duration. See our pricing guide for the full breakdown, or use the charter price estimator to get a number for your guest count and date.
A Few Logistics Worth Knowing
- For charters departing near the Shelter Island pier, public parking is available in the lot across the street.
- Your booking confirmation email includes your exact boarding location, so forward it to whoever's handling your event's logistics.
- If conditions are unsafe for boating, we reschedule to a mutually convenient date rather than sail — worth knowing if your event is tied to a specific conference or convention week.
- Cancellations at least 5 days before the reservation date get a full refund, which gives some room if your headcount or date shifts as invitations go out.
- The renter — the person who books — must be 18 or older.
