Sunseeker Predator 72 salon at sunset

A sunset charter is one of the simplest ways to spend an evening on San Diego Bay. The light turns gold, the skyline lights up, and for a few hours there's nowhere else to be. Here's what to know before you book one.

What a Sunset Charter Actually Is

A sunset charter isn't a separate product. It's a harbor cruise timed around golden hour instead of midday. The route follows the same relaxed loop, generally from Point Loma past Coronado with views of the downtown skyline.

San Diego Bay is calm, protected water. That makes an evening cruise comfortable, even for guests nervous about choppier conditions elsewhere. It also keeps the ride steady for photos as the light changes.

Which Yacht Fits a Sunset Cruise

Several yachts in the fleet suit this kind of trip. The Sea Ray 52 holds up to 13 guests and blends dining and lounge space across three decks. It starts at $1,900 for the 2-hour minimum.

The Sea Ray 56 also holds up to 13 guests and adds a flybridge with wraparound seating above the salon. It starts at $1,980 for 2 hours.

The Beneteau 50 carries up to 13 guests as well, with an open cockpit and a forward bow sunpad. It's a good spot to watch the light change, and starts at $2,450 for the 2-hour minimum.

For a more dramatic evening, the Sunseeker Predator 72 is a striking black-and-white sport yacht with aft deck seating built for entertaining. It's offered as a single 4-hour charter at a flat $7,200.

The McKinna 69 also suits a sunset cruise, with a bow lounging area and an enclosed Skylounge. It's a quiet spot if the evening turns cool. It departs from Mission Bay rather than San Diego Bay, so check its page for current rates.

How Long to Book

Most charters have a 2-hour minimum, though most guests book 4 hours or more. A longer charter leaves time to board, get underway, and watch the sky actually change color instead of rushing back to the dock. The Sunseeker Predator 72 is only offered as a 4-hour trip.

Sunset timing shifts through the year, earlier in winter and later in summer. Share your date when you request availability, and we'll help plan a boarding time around it.

Catering and Drinks for an Evening Charter

Guests may bring their own food and beverages, including alcohol, so a sunset cruise can be as simple as a cooler and some snacks. Light catering and beverage service can also be arranged in advance if you'd rather not handle it yourself. Champagne service is available too, a popular add-on for a proposal or anniversary cruise.

Occasions Built Around Golden Hour

A sunset cruise works on its own, or as the setting for something bigger. Our proposal charters note that sunset is a popular time. The Sea Ray 56 or 52 both offer a flybridge and foredeck for a private moment away from other guests.

Weddings include an elopement option built around a sunset ceremony on deck, aboard the Sunseeker Predator 72 or McKinna 69.

A bachelor or bachelorette party can book a golden-hour cruise past the skyline on a Sea Ray or the Beneteau 50. Guests head to dinner downtown afterward.

A milestone birthday charter can also be timed for sunset. It can scale from a small gathering on the Sea Ray 52 up to a larger party on the Westport 100.
